I’ll be starting my first year of college soon and am wondering what’s the best way to handle finances. I have a savings account. Should I open a checking account? This would allow me to get a debit card, right? I already have a credit card that is linked to my parents’ account, but it’s for emergencies only. If I use if for anything else, I must pay them back within 30 days. Should I get my own credit card or debit card? How did you manage your money in college?

Thursday, July 29th, 2010Financing College Options…?
Wednesday, July 28th, 2010I am not legible for a Pell Grant. Should I:
A. take out student loans (program costs about K)
B. work P/T, go to school P/T
C. work F/T until I can save enough to go to school F/T
Other details:some courses are only offered in the Fall. If I don’t take those classes this Sept., I will have to wait another year.

Is accounting truly harder than finance in college?
Friday, July 23rd, 2010I’m going into college and was wondering how much harder accounting is than finance cause I figure since I’m already doing a quantitative major (finance) why not go a small step further (accounting)?? But is really that much harder?? My friend wasn’t smart but only dedicated and he got past accounting and got a degree in it. Do u have to be really smart to do accounting??

What are the best options for financing college for a kid with a single parent?
Sunday, July 18th, 2010I am a biracial male high school senior with a white single mother and we are classified as middle class. I want to go to Ball State Univ., if I do get accepted there I will get in-state tuition. I have worked a summer job at a theme park since I’ve been 14. I make good grades in the B range about 3.4 GPA and I am pretty active. However, I am having difficulty finding scholarships and I feel discouraged about paying for college. Is there anybody with a single parent who has been successful with college and can give me advice?

What does the average community college offer to a student with children?
Saturday, July 10th, 2010Do community colleges offer special programs for students with children? I have 3 children (who, at the time of attending college, will all be in elementary with my youngest going into kindy), and though I’m together with their father, I’m "technically" single and have no income since I’ve only been the stay-at-home mommy. Do colleges offer special financing, daycare, or any other benefits for someone like me?
