Is an Economic Degree sufficient for Accounting after college?

I would like to work finance/accounting after college. But my University only offers degrees in Management Science and Economics. I’m leaning towards doing Economics. I was wondering if it was possible to get a job working either finance or accounting with an Econ degree?

Also.. a lot of jobs prefer majors that involve business, financing, or accounting.

Would a degree in Economics fall under those categories?

ANY help would be MUCH appreciated… Thanks!

Economics classes will help, but frankly, accounting is a small part of economics. Many of the classes that are required for economics majors will be fairly unrelated to accounting. You’ll want to look closely at the Management Science classes to see how helpful those will be.

There is an exam you take to become a Certified Public Accountant. I don’t believe there are any particular degree requirements to take that exam. I think passing it is what gets you a CPA credential.

Your best bet will be to talk to an accountant about the best preparation for the field, then talk to professors in those academic departments.
