College financing (FAFSA, etc) help?

Sunday, January 30th, 2011

I’m 17, graduating high school a year early, got accepted to my school of choice (which happens to be out of state) and I’m ready… Except my father (who has custody) will not support me going out of state, I’m taking two years in one for school so I can’t work full-time (which is required to be emancipated) and am not married or in the military, so I have to claim dependency on the FAFSA and that will then ask for an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) that is far out of my reach.

Does anyone have any ideas? Is there something else that will allow me to be able to pay for this? I know there are programs in place to help you get an education even in awkward situations. I know I will go into debt to go to school and I’m okay with that, but I’d like to make that debt as little as possible and actually make the loans available to me.

Any suggestions?

Any suggestions on how to finance my college education?

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

I’m aware of Pell grants. I think they cap it off at around ,700 a year. Does anybody have any suggestions as to how to cover the rest of my college tution, books, lab fees, room, board, transportation, etc.? My parents never saved a dime for my education. I plan to pursue a major in Criminology or Sociology.

I’d like to kep all of my options open for the future, so I’m kind of trying to steer clear of government loans…not government grants, but government loans. Specifically because if I were ever to apply for a government position in the future, I could not have any outstanding government loans.

If you guys could kick me down a couple good ideas, nothing that would jeopardize my integrity or leave me in anything less than great moral standing please. I appreciate it!
Haha. Thanks to the first answerer…but I’m asking for specific jobs, perhaps a business venture, etc.

College financing options in Ontario, Canada?

Friday, August 27th, 2010

I went to college 2 years ago, took police foundations in the first semester, and computer engineering in the second semester. I failed both courses due to depression and general chaos in my life. The cost of the failed courses set me back over 00.00 dollars, of which I have paid off about 5000.00. I really, really want to go back to school, but my financial options are limited. Getting rid of my student loan has been expensive, I am not sure how my credit rate is doing, but Im confident it isnt doing well. My question is : what options do I have for financing my education after screwing up so badly? I live in Ontario, so OSAP is the loan I had before. I dont know if they’d finance me again. I dont think I could save up more than 2000 dollars between now and september, and my friends have advised me not to go to work while I go to school. What do you guys think?

Alternatives to financing college education?

OK, here’s my dilemna: I want to be a filmmaker/screenwriter, and I got accepted to two film schools but am unable to attend either one because of financial roadblocks. First, I live alone w/my mom who has jacked-up credit and is unable to get loans approved, therefore she can’t co-sign on any loans for me. Secondly, I don’t have any kind of credit whatsoever (I’m 18) and, I’ve been informed, no bank would ever trust someone under the age of 24 w/a ,000+ loan. I’ve tried scholarships, and I got a few minor ones (0-,000) but they don’t even begin to cover the cost. Does anyone know any way else I can finance my education? This is my lifelong dream on the line here…
