I lost my mom & was wondering if there's any available financial aid for college. I can't afford it on my own.

Saturday, August 27th, 2011

I’ve also been told that I have to file a fafsa with my dad until the age of 25, but that’s not right. I’m 19 & on my own so his finances have nothing to do with my college finances. He can’t afford to send me to college for 4 strait years. I’ve heard there is financial aid for those that have lost a parent, but I can’t find it. I need help & would like to avoid college loans as much as possible. Please help me!

Question about College and Financing?

Saturday, August 13th, 2011

Okay, so I am currently enrolled in Mizzou and i will be an incoming freshman. I move in really soon like august 17th but there is one problem: my tuition has not been paid off. I still have an outstanding debt of about 15,000 and i have no way of paying that. I can’t take out any private loans because I dont have credit and my mother and other families members either have bad credit and would be denied and cannot cosign for me. What can I do at this point? I am freaking out and move in day is steadily approaching and I really do not want to stay here in Chicago. I have no other schools to go to. Is there any other ways I can finance the rest of what I need? And would the school still allow me to come if everything isnt paid off by the time I get there? Please help me.
I have also already done my fafsa and accepted what was given to me.

College financing (FAFSA, etc) help?

Sunday, January 30th, 2011

I’m 17, graduating high school a year early, got accepted to my school of choice (which happens to be out of state) and I’m ready… Except my father (who has custody) will not support me going out of state, I’m taking two years in one for school so I can’t work full-time (which is required to be emancipated) and am not married or in the military, so I have to claim dependency on the FAFSA and that will then ask for an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) that is far out of my reach.

Does anyone have any ideas? Is there something else that will allow me to be able to pay for this? I know there are programs in place to help you get an education even in awkward situations. I know I will go into debt to go to school and I’m okay with that, but I’d like to make that debt as little as possible and actually make the loans available to me.

Any suggestions?

Financing a community college education?

Friday, October 8th, 2010

My boyfriend still has no idea what he wants to do as a career at 21 and he’s been out of school for four years. Currently, he is working as an electronics clerk in a department store. I’m trying to help him get started with community college. The only problem is that he doesn’t have much money to go to school. I am starting study at a university this fall, and my education is mostly funded by grants I received from my school and loans offered from filling out my FAFSA. Is a community college education funded the same way?

Now, if we did manage to get the money for him to start school, what kind of classes should he take? As I said before, he has no idea what he wants to do. Is there a general education degree he can receive? He didn’t do that well in high school and never took the SAT’s, would that be a problem?

What are some ways to finance college completely on your own?

Friday, June 18th, 2010

My parents, who combined make about 0,000 annually, suddenly decided to stop paying for my college education. This means I don’t qualify for any need-based financial aid, so I didn’t bother filling out a FAFSA this year. I go to UCLA (and currently commute there), so I pay about 00 for tuition, 0 for books, 0 for parking, and maybe 0 for gas a quarter, not including miscellaneous expenses. I really wanted a double major in biology and geology, but I can see that dream crushed, as I don’t have enough money to pay for the extra units.

Is there some way that I can loan out enough money to keep me going for the next three years? Is it a good idea to become a part-time student and work like crazy to pay off my loans? I’m so lost and confused.

This problem keeps me awake at night. Thanks for any and all replies.

College Financing Problem.?

Tuesday, June 8th, 2010

I’m a procrastinator and I left filling out my FAFSA until the last minute. I have registration in 14 days and all tuition and fees are due on that day. If I send it over the internet tonight how soon should I hear something back? Also how long does it take for student loans to come through, approval and the money coming in?

International college student financing?

Sunday, May 23rd, 2010

I’m a high-school senior, foreign exchange student from Serbia with a GPA of 4.0 (taking 9 classes) and a vegetarien. I got accepted to college, but the scholarship I got covers only about the half of the tuition. I can’t apply for FAFSA or anything like that cause I’m not a citizen, but I still need to pay about $ 20,000 more. Anyone knows something that could be helpful? Thanks!

Financing college education for adult student?

Friday, April 30th, 2010

I am looking into returning to college after a 20-year hiatus. The schools in which I am interested are all private schools with tuition in the ,000 per year range. After completing the FAFSA, I have learned that my estimated contribution is over ,000 a year. Does this mean that I should start looking into state schools if I want to do this, since I certainly do not have an extra 12 grand every year to pay for this? The admissions counsellor at the school I am most interested was unable to answer this question, and I would like to know what other people know about this.
