Can you take a break between your first and second year of college?

Friday, September 30th, 2011

I just relocated to another state and my finances for college are not how I expected them to be. I’ll probably be able to manage getting this year paid for, but I’m not sure about next year. Is it at all possible to take a break after this first year, and then start again the year after next, when I’ll have the money I need? Or would I have to start over as a freshman again?

What combination of education and experience is usually required to become a college business professor?

Sunday, May 29th, 2011

I have worked in accounting & finance positions for the last 18 years and have hold both a bachelors degree and my MBA. Recently, I have taught several classes as an adjunct (part-time, 1 course at a time) instructor and have found that I really enjoy it.

I’m wondering what are the requirements to secure a full-time position as a college business professor? I realize I would likely face a large pay cut, but I’m starting to realize there’s more to life than money. Thanks!

College financing and social life. Your opinions, please?

I’m currently in college. I’m 18 and have been working since I was 15. I actually attend a community college because I can’t afford anything else and I won’t be able to pay for a Bachelor’s degree with my pay when the time comes to transfer. I’m going to be working all summer at 40+ hours a week doing 3 jobs to be able to pay for school. The only thing is that I reeeeeallly want to leave home and live in a dorm, but I’m stuck living at home. I feel like I’ll miss a lot if I don’t move away to college and live at home. I have friends, but they’re all from my work place, so we’re not close. It’s almost impossible to make friends at community college. I don’t have a boyfriend, and sometimes I feel like I won’t ever find a guy that likes me, and I like him, unless I leave home and live on a campus. The problem is that I can’t get any loans because I’m apparently not old enough to get a loan, I’m under 24. My parents make a lot of money, but they can’t help me because they’re in sooooo much debt. I can’t get any scholarships because I’m white girl, just like tons of other poor college students. What do you suggest?

I love difficult math, but have a hard time staying in college. Does you have any ideas for a career path?

Wednesday, May 4th, 2011

I aced AP Calculus and am easily bored with simple algebra. I find it incredibly difficult to remain in college. I would love to stay away from finance, being that money is quite simple nd boring to me. I love a mathematics challenge. Does anyone have a good idea on a possible career?

Can financial aid be used to help my family needs if I'm in college?

I’m married with a small child and my income is needed. I just lost my job (again) and think that going to college and getting my degree will help, but barely survive with both incomes and can’t afford to lose that money coming in. I want to know, if I’m a full time college student, is it possible for me to use financing I receive to help my bills as well (like housing and my car, daycare, etc)?
