I live and go to school in Illinois, and when my parents got divorced the papers stated that college education finances would be discussed later, however they were not. Someone told me that there is a law in Illinois that the divorced parent has to pay half of school, but I dont know how true that is….please let me know!

Does my dad have to pay for half of college?
Friday, October 22nd, 2010What financing options do I have for college?
Friday, September 24th, 2010I can’t get any more FedAid and due to financial circumstances in my family, my parents can’t cosign a loan for me. I don’t want to put my grandparents into any uncomfortable situations with their finances, but I need a sizable loan. Do I have any options?
What if my parents don't finance my loan for college?
Tuesday, September 21st, 2010My parents are divorced and I live with my dad and at times he sometimes says that when I need help getting into college he won’t finance my loan or sign any papers for me. If he really meant this and wasn’t threatening me then what would I do if this really happened? I can’t get loans for college without his consent? And if he doesn’t consent could I see a lawyer or such to demand his consent? If not, then I won’t be going to college?

Any suggestions on how to finance my college education?
Wednesday, September 8th, 2010I’m aware of Pell grants. I think they cap it off at around ,700 a year. Does anybody have any suggestions as to how to cover the rest of my college tution, books, lab fees, room, board, transportation, etc.? My parents never saved a dime for my education. I plan to pursue a major in Criminology or Sociology.
I’d like to kep all of my options open for the future, so I’m kind of trying to steer clear of government loans…not government grants, but government loans. Specifically because if I were ever to apply for a government position in the future, I could not have any outstanding government loans.
If you guys could kick me down a couple good ideas, nothing that would jeopardize my integrity or leave me in anything less than great moral standing please. I appreciate it!
Haha. Thanks to the first answerer…but I’m asking for specific jobs, perhaps a business venture, etc.
Financing a college education??
Saturday, September 4th, 2010I am a junior in high school. My parents have absolutely NO money to send me to college and so they are thinking of sending me to a community college for two years when I really don’t want to go. As cliche as it sounds, I want to go away to college and have that full college experience, not stay at home and go to community college. I am an international student and i want to attend college in the states, but the fees are monstrous. Could you name me some good schools that offer excellent scholarships and stuff…because i really need it. Btw, I have a 3.7 gpa

Financing College?
Sunday, August 8th, 2010A friend of mine is working on her bachelor’s degree. She has two jobs and gets some financial aid, but doesn’t get enough to cover her school costs. She can’t get more from the school or the state, and her parents do not have good credit so they can’t co-sign on a loan for her. She goes to a private school, so it is a bit expensive, but she cant transfer to another school nearby with the same program because her credits don’t transfer. She’s getting to the point where she thinks she’s going to have to take a semester off to work full time in order to have enough money. I want to help her if I can by finding a way for her to get the money. Any ideas?
How should I handle finances in college?
Thursday, July 29th, 2010I’ll be starting my first year of college soon and am wondering what’s the best way to handle finances. I have a savings account. Should I open a checking account? This would allow me to get a debit card, right? I already have a credit card that is linked to my parents’ account, but it’s for emergencies only. If I use if for anything else, I must pay them back within 30 days. Should I get my own credit card or debit card? How did you manage your money in college?
